Keep Your Locker Room Clean & Dry

Clean and pleasant locker rooms might not be the first thing your patrons notice when they come to your facility, but if your locker rooms are messy, wet and musty, they'll surely let you know about it. Keeping your locker room clean and dry doesn't need to be difficult.

Q: We want to ensure our locker rooms provide a pleasant experience for our patrons. How can we keep them neat and clean?

A: Maintaining a regular schedule for cleaning and maintenance is the key to nice-looking locker rooms. You want to catch problems as they occur, not when they've already made a bad impression on patrons. Assign a staff member to visit the locker room regularly and check for problems. Hang a checklist near the door, and have the employee check off each step as they go. They should be checking and restocking toiletries and toilet paper, as well as picking up trash. They also should check for wet floors or other messes. As an added benefit, a regular sweep of the locker rooms will help deter vandalism and theft.

If your facility has a swimming pool, you should also consider installing a swimsuit water extractor. Swimmers will often leave their wet suits dripping over the door of a locker, potentially damaging the lockers and creating a slip hazard on the floor. A swimsuit water extractor can remove up to 95 percent of a swimsuit's moisture in just 10 seconds.

Q: We'd like to upgrade our locker room to make it more aesthetically pleasing and comfortable for patrons. What should we consider?

A: Many clubs have taken this route, and it doesn't need to be expensive or difficult to create a pleasing locker room environment. You can easily replace your metal lockers with plastic or even wood laminate. You also can provide toiletries for a relatively low cost.

Simplifying and streamlining the locker room experience for your patrons will go a long way toward making them comfortable. Swimmers will love being able to dry their suits, instead of finding a way to carry them home while they're still wet. Swimsuit water extractors not only keep your floors dry and safe, but they also make things easier on your patrons.
