Design/Build by ADG, Wilderness at the Smokies Latest Expansion Opens to the Public

Aquatic Development Group (ADG) is proud to announce the opening of their latest expansion at Wilderness at the Smokies Resort located in Sevierville, TN. ADG played the role of design/builder for the expansion, completing several upgrades and additions to the indoor and outdoor waterpark areas. This expansion opened to the public on December 21, 2023, on the park’s 15th anniversary, nearly doubling the size of its indoor waterpark, Wild WaterDome.

ADG’s relationship with Wilderness Resorts dates back several decades. ADG was the original design/builder of the Wilderness at the Smokies indoor waterpark in 2009, and before that, played the role of design and equipment supplier at Wilderness Resort in the Wisconsin Dells – better known as the “Waterpark Capital of the World!” ADG more recently worked with Wilderness Development Corp. on the award-winning $90 million outdoor waterpark Soaky Mountain, in 2020, which is situated just across the street from the Wilderness at the Smokies resort, and the only new waterpark construction in North America to finish and open during the COVID-19 global pandemic.

“We were thrilled for the opportunity to once again collaborate with Wilderness Resorts for this exciting and creative waterpark expansion,” said Jim Dunn, President of ADG. “We love working with longtime clients, who trust our ability to be innovative in design, while still meeting their needs.”

Some of the key features of the new 40,000 sqft expansion include a brand-new rooftop lagoon pool featuring views of the Smoky Mountain range, a new bar and grill, cabanas, and an entertainment stage for performances. Indoors, a new water coaster featuring the world’s first Reverse Aqua Lucent water slide and Kaleidoscope Kavern designed by Moment Factory. This first-of-its-kind immersive lazy river surrounds riders with kaleidoscopic light and sound.

Another key feature of the new expansion project by ADG is the renovation of the spa. Wilderness requested ADG develop a creative design to convert a portion of the existing indoor/outdoor pool into a hot spa with ample seating and a 1,055 sqft activity pool with a three-sided basketball hoop feature in the center.

In addition to the new rides and attractions, the Wilderness at the Smokies expansion now accommodates over 500 additional seats for guests in the waterpark, and nine new cabanas available for rental.
