So Many Ways to Play

One of my favorite yoga instructors constantly reminds us that "people vary." And indeed, it is true. People vary in so many ways—our favorite foods and hobbies, our favorite activities and music, and our favorite things to do at the park.

Some folks are constantly on the move; others just want a pleasant place to sit and watch the world go by. Designing parks, playgrounds, green spaces and trails well means taking into account all of the myriad ways people engage in leisure-time activity. And while you can never please everyone, there's little doubt that the vast majority of people will be pleased if you just ask for their opinion.

Community involvement is one of the cornerstones of creating successful parks and trails. In this Guide to Playgrounds and Park Furnishings, we offer you an in-depth look at how community involvement can help get your playground or greenway project up and running. But, of course, that's not all. We also delve into the best ways to use site furnishings to ensure that there's something for everyone at your park or site.

After all, there are many ways to play.

Have Fun!
