Save Energy & Money at the Pool

Operating an aquatic facility—and the equipment that supports it—takes a lot of energy. And because budgets are never as substantial as we'd like, many facilities are continually looking for new ways to reduce costs. In response, manufacturers are constantly developing new ways to save energy and streamline operations, reducing operating costs. Simple upgrades can have a big impact on the amount of energy your facility consumes—helping boost your bottom line.

Q: We would like to improve energy efficiency at our pool to help lower operating costs. Are there small steps we can take?

A: One small solution is to replace incandescent bulbs with LEDs, which can reduce energy use by as much as 80 percent while lasting up to 20 times longer. When you add energy savings to the reduced maintenance required for LEDs, you'll find that you get a quick return on your investment. What's more, LED lights are twice as bright as incandescent bulbs, providing a more aesthetically pleasing look.

Pool covers are another simple way to reduce energy consumption. A pool cover reduces the cost of heating your pool, and also reduces evaporation, which saves water. This means you use less energy to heat and treat water, making a pool cover a cost-efficient way to conserve resources and dollars.

Q: What are some other ways we can reduce our operating budget?

A: There are many solutions available to help you save energy. For example, variable frequency drives (VFDs) and energy control automation can enable you pool to run at maximum efficiency.

Be sure to check with local energy utilities and other local organizations to see if energy rebates and incentives are available. This will help you earn back your investment in energy-saving products even more quickly.

Talk to your pool equipment supplier about the various options that can help save energy at your pool.
