Keep Locker Room Floors Dry

If your facility has a swimming pool, or a locker room with showers, you might be challenged by wet floors. Wet floors can present a hazard for barefoot patrons, and you should find solutions to help prevent slips and falls from occurring in your facility. In addition, patrons with bare feet don't feel comfortable walking on wet floors, which can harbor bacteria from other patrons.

Q: We are concerned about patrons slipping and falling, or even just walking barefoot on wet floors in our facility. What should we consider to address the issue?

A: You should look for surfacing for areas in your facility where the floor can get wet. This might include the paths from pools and saunas to locker rooms, as well as the area around the showers.

Look for a textured, anti-skid, self-draining surface that can help keep wet floors dry. The ideal surface will be made from anti-microbial oxy-B1 vinyl, which helps control infectious bacteria, as well as mold and mildew.

You can find a surface of this type that is available in a variety of configurations that are simple to snap together, creating a custom surface of any length, width or shape to suit your facility perfectly.

Q: What should we know about keeping these areas clean?

A: You should always perform regular maintenance of your locker room areas, and staff should be checking regularly for problems.

As far as the surface you use to keep wet floors dry, proper cleaning and maintenance will ensure it lasts. How often you clean the surface will depend on how heavily your facility is used.

Look for a surface that is simple to clean. For high-use areas or in barefoot environments, you should be able to use a high-pressure power washer on the top surface and bottom surface to remove organic material. Occasionally, you might want to roll the surface back and clean beneath to reach dirt that collects beneath it.
