Outfit Your Locker Room
When selecting lockers and other amenities for your locker room, it's important to think about how your patrons use the space. By carefully considering your facility's and your patrons' needs, you'll be able to find the best fit.
Q: What sort of lockers should we consider for our facility?
A: Steel lockers are hard wearing and an excellent choice—especially if your facility sees a lot of use. They are available in a wide variety of configurations. Single tier lockers, for example, are excellent if your patrons like to hang garments, and store personal effects. But if you have limited floor space, double tier lockers will serve you well—with enough room for patrons to hang shorter garments.
If vandalism is a concern at your facility, be sure to talk to your manufacturer about lockers designed to withstand higher levels of abuse.
Don't forget about the importance of ADA accessibility. You can find lockers that are ADA compliant. These lockers include a specially designed handle requiring only a 20-degree rotation to pop the door open, and automatically return to the locked position, facilitating door closure with a simple push. They should have a low-profile design for easy access with handles, hooks and bottoms designed to meet ADA reach requirements.
Q: We have a lot of users who just stop in for a quick workout, and don't use the full facilities of our locker room. Is there a locker we can provide for them?
A: More and more patrons are coming to the gym ready to go, and don't want to bother with the locker room. For them, consider adding personal effects lockers outside the locker room. These lockers are ideal for limited spaces where people need a secure place to store their belongings.
Q: What else should we consider?
A: Don't forget to include extra amenities in your locker rooms. Hardwood or plastic laminate locker benches provide a place for people to sit or place belongings as they're getting ready for a workout or to go home. Benches are available in a wide range of styles and sizes to meet you needs.
