Protect Fitness Patrons & Equipment
When patrons don't clean up after themselves, they can spread disease to others and have a negative impact on your equipment. To help keep patrons healthy and equipment working properly, you need to keep things clean. Encouraging users to wipe down equipment after they're done using it can go a long way toward keeping everything, and everyone, in working order.
Q: We've been relying on a spray with paper towels to help keep our equipment clean. Isn't that good enough?
A: You need to be careful about the kinds of cleaning products you use around your fitness equipment. The alcohol in many sprays and hand-sanitizing wipes can dry out or corrode rubber, vinyl, leather and stitching. Sprays can end up in places where you don't want them, negatively affecting the functioning of your equipment by damaging cables. Products like this can cause your equipment to rust or malfunction.
You've made a big investment in ensuring your patrons have the most up-to-date equipment. Now you need to ensure that equipment lasts. Be sure to follow the manufacturer's recommended practices for keeping your equipment clean.
Q: We would like to provide a way for patrons to clean up after themselves that is less wasteful. What should we consider?
A: Members will be happy to clean up after themselves if you provide a simple solution. Look for pre-moistened, disposable surface disinfecting wipes that have been developed to not only clean your equipment, but also stop the spread of germs. You should be able to find wipes that will protect patrons from such infectious diseases as MRSA, HIV, TB, Staph, H1N1 and more.
These wipes are easy to use on the parts of your machine that are meant to be clean—everything from seat pads and leg and arm rests to benches, hand grips, chrome plating, painted surfaces, steel and rubber surfaces—even electronic panels.
What's more, you can find wipes that feature biodegradable and recyclable elements, helping ensure you are wasting fewer resources.
