PHIT Bill Passes House

The U.S. House of Representatives passed House Resolution 6199, the Restoring Access to Medication and Modernizing Health Savings Accounts Act of 2018, by a vote of 277-143. The Personal Health Investment Today (PHIT) Act, a bill that provides Americans with the ability to invest in active, healthy activities that promote improved health was included as part of the legislation, which now moves to the Senate for consideration.

Two-Thirds of Health Clubs in 2018 Plan Construction

After falling substantially from 2014 to 2015, the percentage of sports, health and fitness club respondents to the Industry Report survey who say they are planning construction has gradually climbed. In 2018, some 66.7 percent of health club respondents said they had plans for construction, with 19.7 percent planning to build new, 21.2 percent planning additions, and 45.5 percent planning renovations at their facilities. The average amount that health club respondents have budgeted for these construction plans is $3,010,000.

This is up from 2017, when 59.2 percent of health club respondents said they were planning construction. The percentage has been gradually climbing since 2015, when the percentage of health club respondents who said they were planning construction fell to 54.1 percent, from 69 percent in 2014.
