Fitness Centers, Now & Planned

Fitness Centers, Now & Planned

Health clubs are the most obvious choice for those wanting to join a fitness facility, but other types of facilities also provide fitness centers and exercise areas with cardio machines and weights. For the Industry Report, we ask respondents if they currently include this sort of fitness center among their facilities, as well as if they plan to add such an amenity over the next several years.

Nearly half (49.1 percent) of all respondents in 2018 said they currently have a fitness center. The respondents who were most likely to include a fitness center were those from health clubs (92.3 percent), colleges (86.6 percent) and Ys (81.1 percent).

Looking forward, 16.3 percent of respondents with plans to add amenities to their facilities said they would be adding fitness centers. They were led by those at health clubs (30 percent), schools (26 percent), and colleges (25.8 percent).
