New Program Aims to Grow Pickleball & Tennis

A new program aiming to grow both pickleball and tennis has been announced by Professional Pickleball Registry (PPR) and Professional Tennis Registry (PTR). The brainchild of PTR/PPR CEO Dan Santorum, PickTEN gives clubs a resource for attracting new players to their facilities through a fun, social and engaging program.

Afterschool Alliance Discusses House Subcommittee Vote to Increase Funding

"[The] vote by the House Appropriation Labor-HHS Subcommittee to increase funding for the 21st Century Community Learning Centers initiative by $100 million is a resounding rejection of the White House's three-year effort to eliminate the nation's principle federal funding stream for afterschool and summer learning programs."

U.S. Soccer Foundation Awards Grants

The U.S. Soccer Foundation announced it has awarded seven grants totaling $151,805 to organizations that will create and enhance safe places to play in six states. When completed the projects will provide access to safe play spaces for more than 55,500 youth and adults.

Dermatologists: Half of Americans Not Protecting Themselves From the Sun

In a recent survey, the American Academy of Dermatology found only half of Americans always or almost always protect themselves from the sun when they're outside—increasing their risk for skin cancer.

Park Respondents Salary & Age Snapshot

Park Respondents Salary & Age Snapshot

In the past five years, the salary for parks and recreation respondents to the annual Industry Report survey has increased by 4.8 percent, from an average of $66,400 in 2014 to an average of $69,610 in 2018. In that same time period, the age of parks respondents has remained virtually unchanged, falling from a long-held average of 50 years old to 49 years old in the past couple of years.

From 2017 to 2018, parks respondents saw their salaries increase a modest 0.7 percent, from an average of $69,100 to $69,610.
