Collaborate to Bring More to Your Community

A look at these numbers reveals an organization in touch with the changing needs of the populations it serves—and on the cutting edge of collaboration:

Of the 120 YMCAs that responded to the 2006 property survey, 10 percent reported that they had built a new facility in collaboration with a partner in the last five years. These partners included (in order of frequency, some with multiple partners):

  • Government: 51
  • Hospital: 40
  • Other nonprofit(s): 18
  • Parks and recreation department: 18
  • Developer: 18
  • School: 16
  • College/university: 14
  • For-profit corporation: 8
  • Church: 6

  • The number of Y's reporting they have an older adult center grew by 142 percent from 2002 to 2006 (from 98 to 237).
  • Y's with teen centers grew 43 percent from 2002-2006 (from 597 to 853).
  • 19 percent of YMCAs reported in 2006 that they operate combination teen/senior centers.
  • Y's with computer labs increased 23 percent from 2002-2006 (from 502 to 616).
