Explore Different Views on Facility Management
When you want to get creative new ideas for your facility, attending trade shows and conferences is a great approach. Talking with your peers and others—particularly when they aren't your usual contacts—can help generate bright new approaches. A European trade show and conference is a great way to discover and explore different viewpoints.
Q: Why should I consider traveling to Europe for such an event?
A: When you visit Europe for a trade show or conference, you'll be exposed to an audience that comes from around the world, exposing you to new ideas, new people, new products and new places. You'll get information that won't always be available within the United States. Many new innovations that are eventually adopted by U.S. facilities get their start in Europe or elsewhere in the world.
Every two years in Germany, a conference designed for municipal leaders, facility managers, architects and engineers, operators of sports, pool and leisure facilities, landscapers and operators of hotels, gyms and campgrounds unites a diverse, multicultural audience. It's a great way to find out about different views on facility management.
Q: What do I need to know to prepare for this type of event?
A: After you register to attend, be sure to take some time with the list of exhibitors, and plan who you would like to speak with before you leave for the conference. Be sure to contact these companies to set up appointments. In European trade shows, exhibitors schedule appointments for sit-down meetings in their booths with refreshments—a different approach than the typically more casual U.S.-based expos.
At the same time, you don't want to overbook yourself. You might find something new or discover an exhibitor who wasn't part of your original schedule, and you'll want to leave time for ad hoc meetings as well.
Be sure to check out the programs and sessions as well. Here, you'll glean new ideas from experts around the world. You might even discover the perfect, creative approach for your own facility.
