Play Days

Don’t forget the fun

“We do not cease playing because we are old.
We grow old because we cease playing.”

—Joseph Lee, father of the American playground movement

You'll find this succinct statement in this issue's playground feature (starting on page 16). It's one of those perfect quotes I wish I had thought of, though Lee, who died in 1937, clearly beat me to it.

Regardless, it's a terrific motto, mantra or maxim to keep in mind as we start the second half of the first decade of the new

millennium. Play is crucial not only for your youngest patrons but for your oldest as well—and everyone in between. And don't forget to save some play time for yourself this year.

Happy 2006!

Best,
