Special Delivery!

"I get mail; therefore I am."       —Scott Adams

About a month ago, I was driving down the highway in Nowhere, Illinois, when I saw a boy around 8 or 9 years old excitedly run out to his mailbox, look inside, and turn around, shoulders slumped, to trudge back to the house. Two days later, driving in the opposite direction at about the same time of day, I got a repeat performance, and I wondered what he was so eagerly awaiting.

We all have our favorite things to get in the mail, whether that mail is of the electronic or snail variety. A new book. A letter from a friend. Our favorite magazine…

I hope that your issue of Recreation Management is one of those things that cheers up an otherwise-bill-filled mailbox, and that the e-mail newsletters we send are a bright spot in your spam-filled inbox.

All of our special deliveries to you have one target: to provide you the most up-to-date ideas, news, inspiration and innovations we can find in the world of recreation, sports and fitness facilities. Whether it arrives via the mail carrier or the e-mail carrier or the web, the result is, hopefully, the same.

Starting this year, we will be bringing you a new way of learning everything you'd like to know about this industry, with our first educational webinar.

On February 6 at 2 p.m. EST, we'll bring you the first installment in what we hope will become a series of outstanding events. The first webinar, sponsored by playground manufacturer Landscape Structures Inc., will feature a discussion of inclusive play. Our speakers include Brad Thronton, international director of project development for Shane's Inspiration; Mike Shull, superintendent of the City of Los Angeles Department of Parks and Recreation; Mike Heitz, director of Louisville Metro Parks; and Jack Will of the DREAM Foundation Inc. We're very excited to bring them to the table so they can educate us all about the nuances of this crucial mission.

Are you intrigued? You can visit:

www.recmanagement.com/Webinar to find the link to sign yourself up for this event. Head on over there now, and save the date to be sure you don't miss a thing!

And we're not stopping there. Stay tuned throughout the year for more educational webinars, where we'll provide the latest expertise from a diverse array of presenters and covering a wide range of subject matter. Got a topic you'd like to learn more about in this format? Drop us a line and let us know!

Add it to the list of special deliveries we'll have for you all year long, from the regularly scheduled issues and supplements to our annual Industry Report, Salary Survey, Problem Solver Guidebook and Buyers Guide, from the RecReport e-newsletters to a website chock-full of searchable information.

Taken together, we hope you find it inspiring and useful—and occasionally entertaining.

Here's to a great 2014!

Be well,
