Crowd Control

Signature's CrowdStopperTM barricades are effective in areas where an extra level of security and crowd control is required. Each hot-dipped galvanized panel connects using a 30-degree interlocking hook system, preventing people from disconnecting barriers once they're attached. Detachable feet allow for easy replacement and compact storage, while durable alloyed steel tubing provides extra strength. These barricades are usable for both indoor and outdoor security at special events, public assembly facilities, themed attractions and anywhere heavy-duty crowd control is important.

Visual Fire Protection

The ADA requires a visual fire protection system for many types of facilities, but until now these units didn't operate effectively in freezing conditions. After years of testing, Safety Technology International Inc. has come up with the new UL-listed, NEMA 4X-rated STI-1229HTR Heated Environmental Enclosure for Strobes, which maintains operating temperature of the strobe appliance with external temperatures to -70 degrees F. This UL- and cUL-listed, all-weather unit also protects against snow buildup to obscure the strobe as well as the entry of moisture in wash-down areas.

Tech-Boosted Bands

Precision Dynamics Corporation offers a new line of state-of-the-art wristbands that incorporates radio frequency ID technology. The revolutionary Smart Band® uses a computer chip and antenna, allowing application-specific information to be written to and retrieved from the bands at any time by RFID scanners. When the wristband passes within the wave field of the reader/antenna, information is transmitted to or from the wristband. The major advantage of the bands is their noncontact, non-line-of-sight read/ capability. Users can record and transfer data from computer systems, potentially eliminating transcription errors.

Lifeguard's Third Eye

The Poseidon system helps provide constant surveillance of swimming pools through a network of digital cameras linked to an on-site computer. In as few as 10 seconds, the system can alert lifeguards via a pager and a supervision workstation when a swimmer is motionless or in trouble beneath the surface. The system gives lifeguards faster and more accurate detection of swimmers in trouble, increasing the chances of saving lives and decreasing the likelihood that a person will suffer long-term damage as a result of a pool-related incident.

The unit features a filter that can protect against hazardous agents such as Anthrax, Sarin and Mustard Gas. It is easy to use, can be put on in less than 10 seconds, and uses a mouthpiece/hood combination where the mouthpiece seal is completely unaffected by face size, face shape or any type of facial hair. Lab testing has demonstrated that it will provide at least 15 minutes of protection.

A Player Runs Through It

Sportfence II, introduced in 1988, protects adult and youth baseball and softball outfielders from injuries. Upon player impact, the 10-foot panel releases from the adjacent panels and falls flat, allowing the player to "run through" the fence and onto the grass beyond. Sportfence sets up quickly, is attractive, stores compactly and transports easily. Schools, recreation and park departments and other organizations also use Sportfence for uses such as crowd management for special events and activities. At the 1996 Olympic Games, Sportfence II was used on all eight fields at the South Commons Softball Complex in Columbus, Ga.
