Trusty Turf

FieldTurf is the official playing surface at Lucas Oil Stadium, the brand-new home of the NFL's Indianapolis Colts that officially opened in time for the 2008-2009 NFL season. Lucas Oil Stadium is the latest and greatest, shiniest jewel of NFL stadiums. For the first three years of their tenancy at the RCA Dome, the Colts played on FieldTurf after it was installed in that venue in late spring of 2005. The team also practices on FieldTurf with both an indoor and an outdoor field at the Colts' Indianapolis training facility. The Lucas Oil Stadium field is the Colts' fourth FieldTurf surface.

Home Run

A-Turf®, a leading synthetic turf field builder, introduced A-Turf® Louisville Slugger®—a synthetic grass system ideally suited for baseball and softball. By slightly modifying the rubber and sand infill ratio and fiber pile height, the A-Turf Louisville Slugger surface delivers a high-performance field that matches the unique ball roll and bounce of natural grass during play. A-Turf's dense systems have the most fiber strands per square yard. More fibers mean less movement of the infill components and greater consistency and durability.

Outdoor Adhesive

Pictured is a rain-permeable synthetic turf athletic field being installed using NORDOT® Adhesive from Synthetic Surfaces Inc. The white NORDOT® Adhesive is being airless-sprayed on a black shock-absorbent and rain-permeable subsurface before synthetic turf is unrolled onto it for bonding. The entire system remains porous because of the design and spray characteristics of the NORDOT® Adhesive.

Greener Grass

TifSport was developed by USDA/ARS geneticist Dr. Wayne Hanna at the University of Georgia Coastal Plains Experiment Station in Tifton, Ga. This is the same breeding program responsible for Tifgreen, Tifdwarf, TifEagle and Tifway 419, the longtime standard for golf courses, sports fields and home lawns. Partly in response to worries over the genetic vulnerability of Tifway, partly as a safeguard against pest and disease problems, and partly in search of greater cold tolerance, Hanna's team set out to develop a new, superior Bermudagrass, concentrating on turf density, strength and quality.
