Revised VGBA Drain Cover Standard Approved

The Pool and Hot Tub Alliance has announced that a revised ANSI/APSP/ICC-16 2017 "American National Standard for Suction Outlet Fitting Assemblies (SOFA) for Use in Pools, Spas and Hot Tubs" was approved by the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC). Originally published in the Federal Register (Vol. 84, No. 101) on May 24, 2019, the updated standards will go into effect on November 24, 2020.

Water Safety Training

Water Safety Training

According to Recreation Management's 2020 Aquatic Trends Report, a majority—61.4%—of aquatic facilities currently provide water safety training among their program offerings.

Respondents from Ys were the most likely to indicate that their facilities offer water safety training. Some 79.3% of Y respondents said they currently offer such programming. The were followed by those from parks, where around two-thirds (66.3%) provide water safety training. Some 63.6% of rec center respondents said they offer such training.

Respondents from camps were the least likely to provide water safety training, with just over a third (34.5%) indicating they do so. They were followed by schools, 52.9% of whom currently offer water safety programs at their aquatic facilities.
