Industry Report: Parks More Likely Than Others to Name Social Equity as a Top Issue

Industry Report: Parks More Likely Than Others to Name Social Equity as a Top Issue

While there has been an increase in the number of all respondents to Recreation Management's Industry Report survey who feel that social equity is an issue of top concern in the industry, respondents from park districts and departments are the most likely to be concerned about social equity.

Since 2018, the percentage of non-park respondents who feel that social equity is a top concern has grown, from 4.9% in 2018 to 8.1% in 2020.

In that same time frame, among park respondents, the number who feel that social equity is a top concern for their facilities has grown from 8.7% in 2018 to 12% in 2020.

In the midst of the COVID-19 epidemic, many parks' social equity programs are coming to the fore, providing much-needed services in the communities they serve, including addressing food insecurity, child care and more.

The 2020 State of the Industry Report is coming! We'll be reporting full details on the latest survey in our June 2020 issue.
