Fitness Industry Leaders Reach Out to Governors on Safely Reopening

Following around a month of stay-at-home orders and forced closures across the country, many states have begun slowly opening for business. In order to help the more than 40,000 U.S. clubs—employing nearly 800,000 Americans before the shutdown—open as soon as is safely possible, IHRSA is reaching out to governors across the country. These efforts are putting the health of staff, members and communities first.

Nearly Half of Health Clubs Report Higher Revenues in 2019

Nearly Half of Health Clubs Report Higher Revenues in 2019

According to Recreation Management's State of the Industry Report, nearly half—48.6%—of health club respondents said their revenues in 2019 were higher than in 2018. This compares with 53.2% of health club respondents to the 2019 survey who projected that their revenues would rise in 2019.

According to the 2019 respondents, 53.2% expected revenues to increase, while 42.6% expected revenues to remain the same, and 4.2% expected a decrease.

In 2020, 48.6% of health club respondents said their revenues had increased in 2019, while 27% reported no change in revenues and 24.3% reported a decrease.
