KaBOOM!, the national nonprofit working to end playspace inequity for good, recently announced new, actionable guidance for safe playground reopening. Developed by a taskforce comprised of public health, community development, parks and recreation, and facilities experts, the guidance provides practical recommendations to playspace owners, operators and managers as they plan to reopen public playgrounds—once this is deemed safe by local health authorities.

Industry Report: Plans for Playgrounds on the Rise

Industry Report: Plans for Playgrounds on the Rise

According to Recreation Management's 2020 State of the Industry Report, the number of respondents who currently have playgrounds, as well as the percentage of respondents with plans to add playgrounds, has increased over the past five years.

In 2020, 61.5% of all respondents said they currently include playgrounds at their facilities. This is up from 60.9% in 2019, and up from 57.6% in 2016.

Looking forward, 20.3% of respondents in 2020 who have plans to add any amenities to their facilities said they will be adding playgrounds. This is up from 17.6% in 2019 and 15.2% in 2018.
