Fitness Participation Up in U.S.

The Sports & Fitness Industry Association showed increasing participation in the most popular fitness categories in 2019. "Participation rates for fitness activities have been strong and consistent," said SFIA CEO and President, Tom Cove. "The fact that participation in nearly every category increased in 2019 reflects the breadth and importance of fitness in the United States. These reports provide readers with an unparalleled understanding of each activity on an individual basis, whether it be yoga, weightlifting, HIIT (high intensity interval training) or dance."

Industry Report: More Than Half Plan to Reopen Before September

Industry Report: More Than Half Plan to Reopen Before September

According to the Update Survey taken in May to supplement Recreation Management's State of the Industry Report, more than half (53.1%) of respondents said they were planning to reopen their facilities before September 2020.

Some 13.6% said they would be reopening in May, 26.6% were planning to reopen in June, 7% were reopening in July, and 5.9% said they would be reopening in August.

Another 2.9% of respondents said they would be reopening after August, with 1.6% planning to reopen in September. Some 0.9% expected to reopen in October to December, 2020, and 0.4% said they expected to reopen in 2021.

A large number—44%—of respondents still did not know when their facilities would be reopening.
