Parks & Rec Pros Serve Essential Mentorship Role

Nine out of 10 U.S. adults agree that it's important for kids and young adults to have access to mentors, according to a recent poll released by the National Recreation and Park Association. A majority—71%—said it is extremely or very important.

Parks More Likely to Be Involved in Outreach to Disadvantaged Populations

According to data gathered for Recreation Management's State of the Industry Report, respondents from park districts and departments are more likely to be involved in outreach to disadvantaged populations than non-park respondents.

Nearly half (48.4%) of park respondents said they were involved in outreach initiatives for underserved populations, compared with 41.3% of non-park respondents. The different was similar for outreach initiatives for economically disadvantaged populations, with 47.2% of park respondents affirming their involvement, compared with 41.4% of non-park respondents. Finally, 41.7% of park respondents said they were involved in outreach initiatives for minority populations, compared with 37.3% of non-park respondents.
