Industry Report: More Than One-Fifth Plan to Add Staff in 2021

From 2015 to 2020, the percentage of respondents who report that they plan to add staff at their facilities has hovered just above or below one-fifth. In 2020, 22.2% of respondents said they were planning to add more staff at their facilities, down slightly from 23.2% in 2019. At the same time, 74.7% of respondents said they were planning to maintain existing staffing levels, and 3.1% were planning a reduction.

That said, in the wake of COVID-19, nearly two-thirds (65.7%) of respondents to Recreation Management's Update Survey said they had put hiring plans on hold, and 44.8% said they had laid off or furloughed their existing staff.

The most recent Industry Report Survey, conducted in January and February 2021, shows that more than one-fifth (21.3%) in 2021 said they have plans to add staff this year, while 7.6% will reduce staff, and 71.2% will maintain existing staffing levels.

Keep an eye out for our June 2021 issue, when we'll report the full results of the Industry Report Survey!
