Woodridge Park District Athletic Recreation Center in Woodridge, Ill.
The new Woodridge Park District Athletic Recreation Center (ARC) is a 75,000-square-foot, $18 million project that provides space for indoor athletic and fitness programs.
The WT Group, based in Hoffman Estates, Ill., never turns down a parks and recreation project. The firm is committed to making lives better for the communities in which its team members live and work. Plus, who doesn't love being part of the "fun" business?
WT Group's Mechanical/Electrical/Plumbing practice provided HVAC, plumbing, electrical and sprinkler engineering services for the Woodridge Park District's new ARC. For the project, WT Group teamed up with Williams Architects, Corporate Construction Services and the owner. In the end, this team created a world-class gym for the community of Woodridge.
The new Athletic Recreation Center consists of the following features:
- Walking/jogging track
- Cardio/weight fitness area
- Aerobic room
- Gymnasium
- Ropes course
- Indoor artificial turf field
- Multipurpose room
- Locker rooms
- Community resource center/child care room
- Warming kitchen with concessions area
The WT Group strives to create environments that are efficient, sustainable and built to last, keeping the community safe, happy and with a place they can spend time with their families.
This is why WT utilizes sustainable design practices.
Within the Woodridge Athletic Recreation Center project, for example, the mechanical system incorporates multiple VAV (variable air volume) rooftop units and VAV boxes with hot water reheat serving each zone, along with high-efficiency boilers providing hot water to VAV reheat coils. A direct digital control system provides control and monitoring of the HVAC system. The plumbing system includes the use of low-flow fixtures. The final sustainable design practice involves the electrical system's exterior LED lighting and interior LED lighting with daylight harvesting.
