Ys and Schools Lead on Youth, Adaptive Sports

Ys, schools and parks are generally the most likely to provide sports programming of any kind, according to Recreation Management’s State of the Industry Report.graph

More than half of all respondents (50.3%) said they currently offer youth sports programming, while 38.1% offer adult sports teams, and 11.8% include adaptive sports programming at their facilities.

Ys were the most likely to offer youth sports programming, with the majority (87.2%) of Y respondents indicating they hosted youth sports teams at their facilities. They were followed by schools (82.5%) and parks (70.1%).

Parks were the most likely to offer adult sports programming, with nearly six in 10 (59.8%) park respondents indicating they currently offer adult sports opportunities at their facilities. They were followed by colleges and universities (58.9%) and Ys (55.3%).

Finally, more than one-quarter (25.5%) of Y respondents indicated that they currently include adaptive sports programming at their facilities. They were followed by schools (20.6%) and parks (13.8%).
