In 2022, splash play was the most commonly planned addition for parks and recreation respondents to the Industry Report survey. Some 31.6% of park respondents who were planning to add features at their facilities were planning to add splash play areas. This is up from 24.9% in 2021, and more in line with 2020’s numbers (taken prior to the pandemic), when 32.1% had such plans.
Synthetic turf was the next most commonly planned addition in 2022, with 24.2% of park respondents with plans to add features indicating they would add synthetic turf sports fields. This is up from 13% in 2021 and 13.9% in 2022.
Other commonly planned additions in 2022 include dog parks (22.1%, up from 20.6% in 2021); playgrounds (20%, virtually no change from 19.9%); outdoor fitness (16.8%, down from 26%); and bike trails (16.8%, down from 18.4%).
