Planning for Events & Sports
Austin, Texas, has long been called the Live Music Capital of the World, but until recently, the city didn’t have a large concert venue. That all changed in April 2022, when the Moody Center opened.
Designed specifically for concerts, the 530,000-square-foot arena is also home to the University of Texas Longhorns men’s and women’s basketball teams, and at $375 million, it’s the most expensive college arena ever built.
The multipurpose facility features top-tier amenities and hospitality for artists, athletes and fans, with the nation’s largest event floor and plenty of VIP viewing options, including nearly 2,000 club seats, three premium clubs, 57 loge boxes, 44 porch suites (inspired by Matthew McConaughey’s design influence) and one super-VIP club.
The architect on the project, Gensler, partnered with owner Oak View Group, CAA ICON, Live Nation and C3 on the project, which helped University of Texas consolidate its campus sports venues. According to Gensler, “The arena creates an immersive experience from the moment fans arrive at the interactive plaza until they get to their seats.
Indoor and outdoor spaces are blended into a cohesive, brand-forward experience, according to Gensler. “The arena dares to be different, without stealing the focus from other UT athletic buildings, by respecting campus materiality and introducing a modern approach to systems and details.”
Sightline Commercial Solutions custom-engineered aluminum divider rails to help create an intimate atmosphere for the arena’s unique porch suites. Additionally, the venue features more than 6,000 linear feet of architectural railing. Designed to enhance fan safety and promote socialization without disrupting visibility, these sleek railing solutions complement the space’s modern aesthetic.
Recently, the Moody Center’s sustainable design features were recognized with LEED Gold Certification.
