While the general Industry Report survey population named staffing issues as their top challenge in 2023, for college
respondents, staffing issues were eclipsed by problems with equipment and facility maintenance.
More than half (52.5%) of college respondents said they thought equipment and facility maintenance, compared with 48.7% of non-college respondents. And while staffing was named the second most common challenge by nearly half (49.5%) of college respondents, far more non-college respondents (61.2%) considered staffing issues a top concern.
More college respondents than non-college respondents also said safety and risk management was their top concern (35.4% vs. 24%), as well as general fitness and wellness (33.3% vs. 14.6%).
