The National League of Cities (NLC) launched an interactive dashboard tracking how thousands of cities, towns and villages are investing Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (IIJA) funding into valuable projects for communities across the country. The dashboard tracks more than 1,600 projects across 1,100 local governments.
Overall, this map represents $13 billion dollars in direct infrastructure funding awarded to local governments for investments in resilience, safety and clean energy as well as roads, bridges, public transportation and other infrastructure that are used by more than 97 million people.
Users can explore the map filtering by location, spending category and other details to learn more information about a municipality’s plans for deploying bipartisan infrastructure law program funds.
“For over half a decade, the National League of Cities relentlessly advocated for lawmakers in Washington to invest in our country’s infrastructure – our roads, our bridges, our water systems, and the broadband networks that keep our communities connected. With the funds in the bipartisan infrastructure law, we’re now seeing that work become reality,” said Clarence. E. Anthony, CEO and Executive Director of the National League of Cities. “Our new dashboard demonstrates all of the remarkable ways cities, towns and villages are putting these historic federal funds to work in their communities.”
Below are a few statements from local leaders on how federal infrastructure dollars are supporting their communities.
“Jamestown Safe Streets and Roads for All planning grant focuses on ensuring students have Safe Routes to School. The planning grant will work to find the most effective pedestrian safety measures that can be implemented in a walking school district to achieve the City’s Vision Zero policy.” – Mayor Eddie Sundquist, Jamestown, NY
“The Florence Railroad Crossing Safety Improvement Planning Project is a planning initiative that will study 33 railroad crossings within city limits. The project will result in a publicly available action plan that will identify crossings requiring safety improvements and define the improvements to be made. The planning initiative will further identify specific crossings that are of high safety concern and are in relation to the City’s LMI areas and will identify specific improvements that can be made to the crossings to promote safety and provide access.” – Councilmember Lethonia Peaches Barnes, Florence, SC
“St. Louis Park is committed to improving safety and expanding mobility options for our community, with a special focus on making streets safer in our historically disadvantaged communities,” said St. Louis Park Mayor Jake Spano. “The Safe Streets and Roads for All project will provide our city with the foundational support to plan safer streets for pedestrians, bicyclists, transit and motorists. I want to thank the Biden-Harris Administration and Secretary Buttigieg for investing in our city.” – Mayor Jake Spano, St. Louis Park, MN
The bipartisan infrastructure law was passed by Congress and signed into law by President Biden on November 15, 2021. This legislation represents a historic opportunity for local access to federal infrastructure funding to rebuild transportation, water, broadband and more. New awards are released by federal agencies on a rolling basis, and there are many opportunities still available for local governments to apply for funds through 2026.
