Refurbish Your Splash Pad

Splash pads have been among the most commonly planned park additions for more than a decade. But for those whose splash pads are five years old or older, the equipment and hydraulic systems might be starting to show signs of aging.

Q. We’d like to update and refurbish our splash pad. What should we consider?

A. There are many ways to refresh your splash pad and create a brand-new experience for park visitors.AquaWorx

Start by switching out your worn-out features, replacing them with new multi-sensory, interactive features, from splashing towers and dumping buckets to water play tables, water domes, ground sprays, shimmering mists and more. Consider changing the color scheme of your splash pad to create new interest. Or, you can consider adding a creative theme, such as an underwater adventure with sea creatures.

You can even do simple upgrades, like decorating ground sprays with foam starfish and other marine life shapes designed to withstand harsh UV rays.

As you replace your facility’s water features, look for durable powder-coated stainless-steel. They should be designed and manufactured to be UV-resistant as well as to withstand the impacts of chlorinated water.

Q. As we update our splash pad, we’re also concerned about water use and protecting visitors from water-borne illnesses. What should we know?

A. As you dig into your splash pad refurbishment project, it’s a good time to take a look at your hydraulic systems, and talk to the manufacturer of your splash play products about improving your splash pad’s water system.

Most splash pad manufacturers recommend recirculating filtration systems, which use filters and chlorination to treat the water before sending it back through the system.

You can find interactive water features that come pre-plumbed and pre-wired with all the pumps, filters, valve manifolds, breaker panels, control panels and chemical control equipment needed to keep your splash pad in working order.

For additional protection for your park visitors, consider adding UV sanitization to your splash pad’s recirculation system. UV sanitization offers a secondary method of disinfecting your splash pad’s water, protecting guests from harmful chlorine-resistant bacteria..
