University of Michigan students have an exciting new sustainability effort in place in both the Intramural Sports Building and North Campus Recreation Building and it is thanks to one of its students who took the opportunity to enter the SportsArt nationwide Campus Challenge sweepstakes. The two recreation centers are receiving SportsArt’s innovative ECO-POWR™ premium cardio equipment that converts human energy into usable electricity, including the G690 Treadmill, G260 Rower, G778 Stepper and the G516 Indoor Cycle. This equipment is valued at $43,000 and will empower students to reduce their carbon footprint with every workout.
Dillon Apfel, the University of Michigan student who created the second place winning TikTok entry, discussed recycling everyday to live more sustainably. All students were tasked with accepting the SportsArt challenge to be more sustainable on their individual campuses in order to be entered into the sweepstakes.
“[I’m] so happy I was able to do my part in making a difference,” said Dillon Apfel, University of Michigan student who submitted the second place winning entry in the SportsArt Campus Challenge. “Especially right here at the University of Michigan.”

The new SportsArt equipment––available to enrolled students, faculty and staff, as well as alumni with memberships––is installed:
● on the main floor in the Intramural Sports Building at 606 E. Hoover Street
● on the second floor in the North Campus Recreation Building at 2375 Hubbard Street, on the University of Michigan main campus
