Shelters, Playgrounds, Restrooms Are Most Common Park Amenities

Park shelters, playgrounds and restroom structures were the most common amenity found among park respondents’ facilities,graph according to the 2024 Industry Report survey results. Some 84.5% of park respondents said they currently have park shelters, while 83.9% have playgrounds and 81.1% have park restroom structures. 

More than seven in 10 park respondents also said they have walking and hiking trails (75.4%), outdoor sports courts (75.1%), open spaces like natural areas and gardens (73.3%), and bleachers and seating (71.8%).

The top three most common amenities also are among the 10 amenities park respondents are most likely to be planning to add over the next three years, though the top three spots on that list go to splash play areas (planned by 30.5% of park respondents who will be adding features), dog parks (23.5%) and fitness trails and outdoor fitness equipment (22.6%). Some 21.2% of park respondents with plans for additions said they would be adding park restroom structures, while 19% plan to add playgrounds and 18.6% plan to add park shelters.
