Respondents to the Industry Report survey from health and fitness clubs were more likely than others to report that the number of people using their facilities increased in 2022 and in 2023. While 66.2% of health club respondents reported an increase in visits to their facilities in 2022, just 60% of all other respondents reported an increase. And while 71.8% of health club respondents saw an increase in 2023, 64.2% of all other respondents reported an increase.
This is a reversal of trends leading up to and through the COVID-19 pandemic, when health club respondents were less likely than others to see increasing participation at their facilities. (See Figure.)
Looking forward, health club respondents are similarly rosy about their prospects for 2024, with 70.3% expecting the number of people using their facilities to increase, compared with 67.5% of all other respondents.
