Health and fitness professionals now have access to a groundbreaking interactive course, Leveraging Anti-Obesity Medications for Optimal Client Outcomes, designed to provide the essential knowledge and skills needed to effectively support personal training and health coaching clients who are using anti-obesity medications (AOMs). This new course is designed by the American Council on Exercise (ACE) and authored by renowned experts, Renee J. Rogers, PhD, FACSM, a senior scientist in physical activity and weight management at the University of Kansas Medical Center, and Mike Hansen, a certified personal trainer and industry writer on AOMs.
“As anti-obesity medications become more prevalent, the health and fitness industry must adapt to meet the unique needs of clients using these treatments,” said Cedric X. Bryant, PhD, FACSM, President and Chief Executive Officer of the American Council on Exercise. “Health and exercise professionals need to be well-versed not only in the physiological effects of these medications but also in addressing the challenges, biases, and stigma that clients may face. This course bridges that gap, empowering professionals to deliver inclusive, informed, and impactful support.”
Through engaging video content and hands-on activities, participants will explore the physiological effects of AOMs, the unique challenges faced by clients using these medications, and best practices for creating personalized fitness programs to optimize adherence and outcomes. By equipping health professionals with an understanding of the science behind AOMs and effective program design, this course is set to play a key role in preparing the fitness industry to meet the needs of clients in this changing landscape.
In addition to the practical applications, the course highlights the biases and misconceptions that may exist in the fitness industry regarding AOMs. By fostering a client-centered and evidence-based approach, professionals will be empowered to support their clients with confidence, contributing to their clients’ health goals and overall well-being.
This comprehensive course aims to provide health and fitness professionals with the tools needed to meet the evolving demands of clients using anti-obesity medications, as well as insights into the broader economic and social impact of these medications on the health and fitness sector.
