Something for Everyone

Emily TippingPeople are naturally drawn to the water, and swimming pools, splash play areas, and other aquatic facilities offer the chance for people to enjoy clean, clear, safe water. Designed well, an aquatic facility can offer a broad range of activities for a diverse community with myriad interests. Lap swimming? Check! Swim meets and team practice? Check! Aquatic aerobics and water walking? Check! Just a fun time splashing around? Check!

This month, we talked with aquatic design experts about the ways they approach planning and building these facilities, and they talked about an array of trends, from providing flexibility to make space for more types of programming to sustainable solutions that support the bottom line, as well as reduce the facility’s environmental footprint.

If you’re dreaming of a new facility—or of a like-new renovated facility—turn the page and see how designers and other recently built and renovated facilities have addressed some of the common challenges and goals around aquatic design.

Cheers!
