“Make big plans; aim high in hope and work, remembering that a noble, logical diagram once recorded will not die, but long after we are gone be a living thing, asserting itself with ever-growing insistence."
— Daniel Burnham, American architect & urban designer
As usual, May approaches, and my gardening eyes are bigger than my gardening stomach. Which is to say, one person with a given amount of energy, and land, and sunshine can only grow so much. But it sure is fun to be inspired by the doings of others. To visit beautiful botanic gardens, arboretums, and even just walk around the neighborhood admiring what others have designed and nurtured.
If you’ve got big plans for new or renovated buildings, grounds, and amenities, you’re in good company. In addition to the dirt, I’ve been digging into the latest data from our Industry Report survey, and this year’s results show more than seven in 10 (71.6%) respondents planning to build new, make additions, or renovate their existing facility. (We’ll be reporting more details on this and other results from the survey in next month’s issue, so stay tuned!)
But perhaps you’re not quite sure how you’d like to proceed. Maybe you and your team need a little inspiration. Well, then, turn the page! This month, we’re taking a look at some of the latest innovations and trends in facility design, with in-depth interviews with some of the leading recreation, sports, fitness—and, in our special Flipbook, aquatic—design experts to bring you inspiring ideas for your own new and renovated facilities. From sporting venues that offer a more immersive fan experience to landscapes that adapt to climate change, from rec and wellness centers that truly bring a community together to aquatic venues indoors and out, we’re bringing you plenty of fodder for your own design dreams.
Happy Building!
