PHTA Accepting Change Requests for 2030 International Swimming Pool and Spa Code

The Pool & Hot Tub Alliance (PHTA), the trade association representing the swimming pool, hot tub, and spa industry, is now accepting change requests to be considered for the 2030 edition of the International Swimming Pool and Spa Code (ISPSC). The revision process will be overseen by the PHTA Code Action Committee (CAC).

The first edition of the ISPSC was published in 2012 by PHTA (then the Association of Pool and Spa Professionals [APSP]) and the International Code Council (ICC). An agreement between the two organizations fosters cooperation in the pool and hot tub industry, as reflected by the cobranding of both PHTA standards and the ISPSC. Since then, new editions of the ISPSC have been published every three years along with the other I-Codes.

“Participating in the code development process ensures that new technologies, new products, and new engineering approaches are reflected in the codes and standards that govern our work,” says Wendy Purser, Chair of the PHTA CAC. “When professionals contribute at any level, their voices help shape safer, more effective standards and codes, like the widely adopted ISPSC.”

The CAC evaluates ISPSC change requests for their alignment with existing PHTA and other standards, and their effect on the existing requirements in the ISPSC. The CAC’s evaluation serves to determine if it is appropriate to include the submitted proposals with other PHTA change request proposals to be submitted to the ICC during the code revision process.

As part of this process, PHTA will communicate with those who submit change requests to inform them about the status, ask for additional information if needed, and provide the eventual decision made by the CAC and the reason why the decision was made. Proposals that were not approved for inclusion in the PHTA collection of proposals can still be submitted directly to the ICC by the individual.

Change requests may be submitted online using this form. All change requests must be received by November 1, 2026.
