Earn Revenue to Support Your Dog Park

Communities across the country have been adding dog parks at a rapid pace. In fact, the Trust for Public Land reports a 42% increase in dog parks since 2009. These parks can be as simple or complex as you'd like, as long as they provide a secure place for dogs to socialize and play. But finding funding to expand your amenities for dogs and their owners may present a challenge.

Q: We'd like to expand our dog park to include more than just a fence and some waste receptacles. What should we consider?

A: All dog parks start with the basics, but you can go beyond that to provide more amenities like agility elements, seating and shade, and water fountains designed for both people and their pets. You can generate revenue for all of this by adding one more element to your dog park: a self-serve pet wash station.

Self-serve pet wash stations can be placed just about anywhere with utility hookups, including a drain, electricity and water. The coin-operated system is easy for owners to use, and will generate the revenues your park needs to expand and offer even more amenities.

Q: What else should we consider?

A: Pet wash stations are easy to install. They arrive fully assembled, and can easily be customized for your site's needs. You can select a variety of colors, and you can add logos or other marketing information, which can help you generate more revenues through partnerships with pet-friendly companies in your community.

You can also customize the functions inside your pet wash station. Consider adding an instant electric water heater for dog's comforts and credit card swipers to make it easier on paying customers. A vending machine with treats, shampoos and more offers yet another way to boost your dog park revenues.

The typical cost for a 12-minute, self-service dog wash is around $10, but you can select the fee you think is most reasonable in your area.
