Highly Quotable
“The future will either be green or not at all.”
— Bob Brown, medical doctor, environmentalist, and former senator of Australia
What happens when you get people to work together to create healthy green space? Improved health, higher property values, stronger, more socially connected communities and more. That’s part of the mission of Project EverGreen, a national nonprofit that has restored nearly 200 million square feet of grass since 2008 as part of its initiatives to revitalize parks and public green spaces, as well as its GreenCare for Troops program, which mobilizes lawn and landscape services for military families.
Founded in 2003 by a group of landscape industry professionals, Project EverGreen’s initial mission was to provide military families and veterans with basic landscape and lawn care services. Since then, the organization’s efforts have grown, and now, with support from donors and volunteers, the nonprofit makes a nationwide impact on lifestyles, the environment, and local economies.
Green spaces have a powerful impact on their communities, helping support active lifestyles, reduce environmental impacts, increase property values, and more. And getting volunteers together to help restore parks and gardens builds social connections, helping improve communities across the country.
There are lots of ways to get involved, from volunteering to sponsoring green space projects in your community, and donating to support sustainable landscape initiatives. And this year, Project EverGreen launched a free online “Clean Air Calculator,” to help you calculate how your landscapes help reduce pollution, sequester carbon, and improve community health.
