Technology, Older Adults Lead Top 2025 Fitness Trends

Technology dominates the top trends for 2025 according to the American College of Sports Medicine. Wearable technology, mobile exercise apps and data-driven technology all appear in the top 10 of the 2025 ACSM Worldwide Fitness Trends, published in the November/December issue of ACSM’s Health & Fitness Journal, and based on an annual survey of 2,000 clinicians, researchers and practitioners in the fitness industry. 

Mind-Body, Sport Training Are Top Planned Fitness Programs

Some 92.5% of health club respondents in 2024 said they provide programming of any kind at their facilities, down from 98.6% in 2023. Fitness programs (82.9%), group exercise (78.4%) and personal training (75.7%) were the top three types of fitness programming offered by health club respondents, followed by functional fitness (70.3%) and mind-body balance programs like yoga, Pilates and tai chi (54.1%). 

U.S. Fitness Facility Membership Reaches Historic High

As more Americans prioritize their health and wellness, U.S. fitness facilities reached a record 72.9 million members in 2023, representing 23.7% of the U.S. population aged six and older, according to new data from the Health & Fitness Association (HFA).
