Outdoor Recreation Most Commonly Planned in South

When it comes to outdoor recreation, 12.9% of respondents to the Industry Report survey with plans to make additions to their facilities said they were planning to add walking and hiking trails. Another 12.7% were planning fitness trails and outdoor exercise areas, 12.5% were planning bike trails, 12.2% were planning disc golf, 4.4% were planning campgrounds, and 3.3% were planning to add waterfronts or marinas.

ORR's new ranking of state outdoor recreation economies, based on new data from the U.S. Bureau of Economic Analysis, identifies the top states in terms of overall size, top year-over-year growth, top growth since before the pandemic, and contribution to state GDP.

Staffing & Maintenance Are Top Concerns for Parks

More than six in 10 (60.1%) park respondents to the Industry Report survey said that staffing issues were a top concern for their facility in 2023, and 55% said equipment and facility maintenance were a top concern.
