Heat Your Pool Efficiently

Problem Solver - August 2018

The job of a heat exchanger is to capture the heat from burning gas and transfer it to the pool's water. The more efficiently it does this, the better. But the combination of operating heat and pool chemicals can be very tough on heat exchangers, potentially leading to corrosion and failure. The older model heaters of seven to 10 years ago might have started out being about 78 percent efficient. But over time, those same heaters are probably now only about 60 percent efficient—as heat exchanger tubes fill with buildup and even the burners get clogged. Today's heater models have much higher efficiencies—in the 85 to 90 percent range.

Transform Your Nightmare Pool to a Dream

While you're fixing your pool's surface and supply piping, you also should consider making improvements to your pool deck. PVC recreational flooring can be installed to provide improved slip resistance around your pool area. In addition, PVC safety padding can be added around pool features, further boosting safety.

Conserve Energy & Pool Resources

Problem Solver - August 2018

Another simple option is to use a pool cover on your outdoor pool. Pool covers help retain heat, reducing the cost of heating your pool. In addition, they reduce evaporation, helping you save water. When you keep the water in the pool, you will need less energy to heat the water, and fewer chemicals to treat it, allowing you to save energy, chlorine and money. Pool covers can also be used on indoor pools to reduce energy consumption, but the savings will be less than when they are used on an outdoor pool.

Keep the Pool Clean

Problem Solver - August 2018

Manual pool vacuums require manual labor and rely on the pool's filtration system, requiring an inefficient amount of water and electricity to clean the pool. Automatic pool cleaners require very little labor and have their own filtering system, saving energy and water.

Build a New Pool

Problem Solver - August 2018

Precast concrete is trusted by engineers for its immense strength and durability because it is produced in a controlled environment, which allows for consistent high quality and uniformity. Variables affecting quality typically found with poured-in-place or pneumatically applied concrete such as temperature, humidity, material quality and craftsmanship are eliminated in a precast plant environment.
